2006 Yankes

i posted this in the regular baseball leftovers forum but i figured we can talk about the 06 yankees more here

maybe it is just cause i am bored but i think the 06 yankees can be one of the best teams the yankees put in the feild in a couple of years.. (obviously 02 and up)

the rotation isnt outstanding but it is DEEP....you never have too much starting as we have seen people get hurt

if johnson can get 31-33 starts he can be ace material...not what he was with mariners and dbacks but defenitly number 1 stuff...you saw him down the stretch (dont remind be about game 3 i was there)

mussina will probably only get 130 innings but we have wright and small to fill in for him

i am curious how chacon and wang do with a full year....15 wins for wang, maybe same for chacon?

the bullpen is better, not what it was during the dynasty, but enough to get the job done...

sturtze small and wright can all eat innings in the pen and spot start which should take the load of the bullpen guys
and cover ourselves when freak injuries occure

nasty lineup

i stongly belive this is the year

anyone disagree if you do say why dont just say you disagree

the giants dont play till sunday so im obviously bored out of my mind
how did colon win the cy young??

the world is comming to an end...woody paige has a Hall of Fame vote

The bullpen downright terrifies me. It being better than last year is very, very debatable. All we have this year is a new group of mediocre pitchers. I don't think its strong enough to get them to through the AL in the playoffs. Other teams pitch too well.

Either do I. Maybe they'll get lucky with Farnsworth or Dotel but if they don't, I'd be surprised if they made it to the Series.

The bullpen doesn't worry me as much as the lack of offense in the playoffs worries me. This past season and in the last couple games of the 04 ALCS it seemed like everyone was swinging for the long ball instead of trying to get on base. I think they should have a good shot so long as they don't all try to be the #4 hitter.

Look at the lineup.

Look at the rotation.

Look at the defense.

Look at the bullpen.

Out of those four, the OFFENSE is what worries you? I got news for ya, if they lose, it won't be because of their offense. It will be because of their questionable pitching/defense and crappy bullpen. Those are what win championships.

Offense during the regular season isn't a problem. As I stated in the post, offense in the playoffs is the problem. Everyone wants to be a power hitter. No one wants to get on base.

The bullpen honestly doesn't worry me that much. I think that Farnsworth is already a good reliever, and has tremendous potential. Not many people can throw heat like he can. As for Dotel, I'm skeptical about his injury, but if he gets healthy, then they will have 2 set up men for the 7th and 8th, as opposed to just one like last year. Myers is solid, villone is mediocre, sturtze is mediocre, but Small and Wright will be good for long relief situations. If the yankees can get to the 7th in one piece, they are extremely solid.

Myers is solid? You're joking right? He's yet another mediocre to awful reliever.
