Here are my top 25 catchers. Next to each player I've included my projections (AVG/HR/RBI/R/SB) and two other numbers, the first italicized number is their fantasy rating in my system (which values stolen bases higher than others). The second, bold number, is the number I used to rank them, which is their VORFP, Value Over Replacement Fantasy Player, which takes into account the value they provide you in each category over the average player at their position. This is why I've rated Mauer higher than V-Mart. Why Martinez has a higher fantasy rating, Mauer has a higher value over the replacement catcher because alot of his value comes from stolen bases, a category you can't get much value from in any other catcher.

The projections are based on a couple of things: three-year averages, the career paths of similar players at the same age, and, of course, a little bit of my opinion. Here's the list:

Why the huge knock on Javy Lopez?

Javy put up a line of .278/15/49/47/0 in about 400 at bats. That's a pretty big decline from the .316/23/83/83 he put up a year ago (and his monster season before that.) In a 35 year old catcher, I expect that decline to continue.

What is the average player at that postion considered. Is it the average starter, the worst starter in a 12 team league, or the average catcher in the mlb

i dont like molina over tek, but besides that pretty good list for catchers

It's the average of all the catchers I did projections for, so basically the starters, players that actually have a chance at ending up on a fantasy team.
