willis shutout?

Postby orangecrushv » Sat Jun 21, 2003 9:53 pm

where's our guy that always quotes the official major league rules... does willis still get credit for a shutout even when the game is called prior to 9 IP?

-rich, who has willis in 2 leagues ;)

I would think it counts as a shutout, since I remember someone getting a shutout by pitching exactly 8 shutout innings.

Sorry, they don't count in my league. I doubt you get credit for a
shutout since his start would be no different than pitching 5 shutout
innings and being pulled and the bullpen pitching 4 shutout innings.

They DO count, b/c I had Meche when he pitched against chicago a month or so ago, it went 5 and he got the CG shutout.

Willis is 6-0 in his last 6 starts, ERA about 0.8, whip about the same.

Is there any denying his ability now? He's doing better than Prior last year. Heck, he's on par w/ him this year

titanut what the hell are you talking about?

Although the game was shortened, Willis pitched the complete game for the Marlins. Who the living blue cheese is that the same as him pitching the same number of innings and then the bullpen taking over. If the bullpen takes over then he's not pitching the complete game. It's called a COMPLETE GAME SHUTOUT buddy, not a 9-INNING SHUTOUT. THINK! FRIG GUY. !+)

I was wrong ! Beat me to death with a fantasy baseball bat.
That stat is not something I really thought about since it does not
count in my league. Not the first time I have been wrong, nor will
it be the last time. Whatever, I am glad Willis is on my team !

This is probably a little late, but Willis should be credited with a complete game shutout in leagues that count it. He did pitch the complete game. Doesn't matter if it's 5 innings or 12 innings, he still gets a complete game shutout.
