Snelling hit 370 last year (granted, in the PCL) with a 450 OBP and did fairly well in limited action with the M's as well. They aren't going anywhere anytime soon so they might as well give the young guys some time to develop. Who knows, maybe they have Lawton penciled in as a 4th OF and insurance if anyone goes down.
I've been on the Snelling train for 3 or 4 years now, but it's always one thing or another with that guy. He's talented definitely, and if he could stay healthy he'd be awesome in LF. That being said, he can't stay healthy for the life of him. Seriously, if he went like a month staying healthy then he would inevitably slip on a banana peel and slip a disc in his back. He's like JD Drew Jr., without the $55M contract. I'd love nothing more than for him to stay healthy for a season and show everyone what he can do, but I wouldn't put money on it.
And regarding Lawton, I don't think it's a horrible move. It's very low risk, and he could do some good things. I like it better than the Everett signing, no doubt about that.
