If it happens I hope Francona will let him run.

here's what's coming from rotoworld....
The Red Sox are discussing Joey Gathright along with both Julio Lugo and Aubrey Huff in trade talks with the Rays.
A player for every hole in the Red Sox lineup, although there's certainly not much chance of them trading for all three. Gathright isn't the Red Sox's kind of player, and though the they could probably get away with having both him and Lugo in the starting lineup, they'd be taking too much of an offensive downgrade if they put Gathright in center and then signed Alex Gonzalez to play shortstop. Regardless, it's probably not going to be worth it in terms of the talent they'd need to surrender to acquire either Gathright or Lugo. Dec. 22 - 4:59 am et

I could see Huff and either Lugo or Gathright ending up there. Huff could benefit from Fenway, and excellent lineup protection (assuming Manny stays). Huff could also play first, third or the outfield which is flexibility the Sox need.

Gathright would be a terrible fit for the Sox since the Boston organization values OBP highly.

Gathright is still young and will have to learn plate discipline to be successful in the big leagues. He might be a decent stop gap/low paid CF for the Sox for now. He could cover a lot of ground and play good defense for them. It might take a year or two but he could develop into a solid leadoff hitter.
