I'm hoping to get some feedback on what some of the leagues you guys participate in do scoring wise.
Right now I'm in a 12 team H2H league where a save counts for the same amount as a win (10 pts).
Lately there have been some grumblings that this makes a closer too valuable. Our final '05 stats may reflect this a little. Out of the top 30 overall pitchers from last season, 16 were closers. Guys like Baez ranked higher than Beuhrle and Todd Jones higher than Smoltz.
What does a save count for in some of the H2H leagues you guys are in?

I'm in the same type of pts league as you with wins being equal to saves so I understand your dilemma. In my league you have Wins as 10 and Losses as -5 with Saves as 10 and BS as -5. An option might be to have saves as 6 and BS as -3. If you do it that way than SP would be more valuable than closers. I agree that that's the way it should be since they pitch more innings. I would also suggest talking to JTWood because he's really good with the numbers as far as points leagues are concerned.

The other thing you might like to look at is increasing the reward for innings pitched or reducing the penalty for giving up hits, walks or earned runs. I've been in a league where saves were worth just as much as wins, but at the end of the year the best pitchers were mostly starters so I guess those factors I mentioned must have been weighted appropriately.

Thanks for the input so far guys.
Right now it's looking like we're leaning towards penalizing a closer with -5 when he blows a save. A good closer might blow five games a year or so & subtracting 25 overall points should just be enough to level things out in mosts eyes.
Plus if a closer blows the save & stumbles into the win he won't get the 10 pts for the win. Just five basically after we take the -5 off for the blown save.
