...to a one year deal worth 1.7 million. I normally wouldn't care less about this, but it's big news for a team that was supposed to spend money this offseason and has only gotten a catcher. So, the O's go and get another aging veteran that has already played with them before (ala Raffy). Well, there aren't many other alternatives for the O's, right now they need him to play left field as things stand. They non-tendered Byrnsie, who had as bad of a batting avg. as me sitting in the stands. However, if they're able to move Javy, he could play 1B a lot more.
Another interesting point, the Pads needs a catcher and just went and got Adrian Gonzalez (whom the O's were looking at) and Chris Young (whom the O's could use, but the Pads wouldn't move him I doubt especially for Javy since their rotation has some holes in it).
SO, I just hope this Conine signing is the first step in some brainstorming strategy. As we know with the O's though, that's probably not going to happen.

Ha, yeah that would make the spanks happy, but obviously the 3 positions the O's do not have to worry about are catcher (they just resigned Gil too, yippee), SS and 3B (2B if Roberts is back by May). I dunno, it just seems to perfect for Javy to go the Pads.

Baltimore, MD: The eternal last hurrah for aging 1B/OFs.
What is it about the Orioles that they can't resist having a couple of has- been 1B/corner OFs on their roster every year?
