Correct me if I am wrong but didnt the Brewers just make a trade with the Braves to get Kolb? That seems kind of stupid to trade for a guy then let him go dosent it?

The Braves also non-tendered the pitcher they traded Kolb for.

It would have been stupid if the Brewers had given away someone they valued, rather than Wes Obermueller (whom they would've likely non-tendered anyway). By making the trade, they gave themselves a couple of weeks to negotiate a contract to their liking with Kolb, without competition from other clubs. They couldn't come to an agreement during that time period, so they move on having lost essentially nothing (and are still eligible to re-sign Kolb if it comes to that).
