Does anyone else have Elijah Dukes on their 2006 OF radar?
If Joey Gathright is traded, Dukes could earn a ticket to the bigs by midseason. His 5-tool potential makes him a prime keeper, but he could really start doing damage this season.
I don't see him getting to the majors this year. The Rays have many outfielders.
Crawford, Baldelli, Gomes, Gathright, and Huff.
And there is Delmon Young. Not sure what they're going to do.
He does sound like a good future major league player.
I own him in a franchise league. Sorry I couldn't help more.
I won't even think of drafting him in my other leagues, unless the Rays trade some outfielders.
I like Dukes in the long run but I think the DRays are going to leave him in the minors for more experience. They are really deep in the OF and don't really have a reason to rush Dukes.
If they trade Gathright and Crawford, the door could be wide open for him midseason. Dukes shouldn't be drafted in most leagues going into the season, but he's worth keeping an eye on.
I remember seeing some Gathright rumors to Fl for prospects but I didn't know that Crawford was on the trade wire. They would be crazy to trade him unless they can get some top notch pitching talent in return. It seems that teams aren't giving up anything pitching wise this offseason though...

Even if Crawford (who won't be traded) and Gath are, the OF is still full with Gomes, Rocco, and Delmon. Also, Dukes finished last year in AA and IMO isn't ready for another year or two. So, even if he does get called up ... he wouldn't produce enough to be worth a roster spot.
I wouldn't think he'd be worth anything this year, but if your league has Minor League rosters I would try to snatch him up. I don't think he has a realistic shot at making the Rays this year. I mean he has to make it through a ton of very nice players/prospects. Don't forget that he has two top prospects who will (Young) or probably will (Upton) be in the outfield before he gets the chance.
Elijah is not worth much this year as he should be in the minors all of 06. He is a great talent that is worth having in minor leagues though especially if he can decided to keep his head on straight.
