True enough wveres, but they had to overpay for everyone of those guys. Well, we don't know this yet in the case of Jojima, but I would be a lot money that his performance does not equate to his price tag.

I don't know ...

they barely outbid Arz and LA for the services of Beltre and Sexson. I don't remember any bidding war for Everett or Ibanez, and Johima visited once and decided he liked it enough to stay.

what am I missing

It's overrated. NYC, Miami, Atlanta get more rain per year.

And i don't see why players wouldn't like it? It's been voted one of the top 10 places to live.

Here are some funny Seattle jokes. I'm sure WR will get a kick out of it.

It's Satoru Iwata. Hes the president now after Yamauchi left (and he was farggin nuts.) But the cheapskating thing doesn't surprise me. Nintendo's video game systems are generally cheaper because they spend less on parts so they can make more profit. I would expect the same thing with the Mariners.

A newcomer to Seattle arrives on a rainy day.
He gets up the next day and it's raining.
It also rains the day after that, and the day after that.
He goes out to lunch and sees a young kid and asks out of despair,
"Hey kid, does it ever stop raining around here?"

The kid says,

"How do I know? I'm only 6."
