that is his whip vs. righthanded batting over the last three years.
Tony La Russa knows how to use a bullpen ...

Looper will be fine.

exactly.

Looper complements Rincon well. LaRussa has his righty and lefty specialist now and an emergency closer if Izzy gets hurt.

Word is they're still in on Dotel as well.
....looper complements rincon ?? looper couldnt get LHers out (.336 OBA) and rincon struggled in his 37 whole innings last yr

Looper gets right-handed hitters out and Rincon gets left-handed hitters out. That's what he meant.

Well, not to rub salt int he wound of Cards fans, but it is getting worse potentially:

Rotoworld:
The Cardinals may sign Kirk Rueter to compete with Anthony Reyes for the vacancy in their rotation, according to FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal.
Braden Looper, Aaron Miles and Rueter. Maybe the Brewers really will have a chance in the NL Central next season.

Rincon signed looking for a bigger workload than last year, which included more righties. As for last year, Rincon struggled to get even lefties out, and while Looper is alright against righties, they both have a penchant for blowing up at bad times. I mean who else can they get that blows up at bad times consistantly, Dotel? Oh wait...

I actually wouldn't mind that signing as long as it's an incentive-laden deal oriented around him making the squad. Rueter is a local boy, and Duncan is good with taking experienced pitchers and squeezing them for every last drop he can get. Beyond that, I am all for making Reyes compete for his 5-spot in our rotation, particularly with a vet.

I agree. I don't think you want to just hand him the job, but you also don't want to go out and get an experienced top-notch starter for him to compete against either.

Well, maybe Rueter wasn;t such a bad idea after all:

Rotoworld:
The Cardinals are set to announce the signing of Sidney Ponson to a one-year deal.
More good news for Astros, Cubs and Brewers fans if the Cardinals put Ponson into the rotation and send Anthony Reyes back to the minors. Sure Ponson is the type of pitcher Dave Duncan tends to have success with, but he's not outperforming Reyes.

...I dunno...how well does Reyes hold his liquor?

Not to rub it in but:

The Cardinals are looking at adding Felix Rodriguez after missing out on Octavio Dotel.
There's reason to hope that Rodriguez would regain effectiveness back in the NL. As long as it's not a multiyear deal, he'd be a decent signing.

...I dunno...He was a bum here.

StlToday.com wrote:The Cardinals are expected to continue fleshing out their pitching staff by signing reliever Felix Rodriguez to a one-year deal as well. Should Rodriguez sign, general manager Walt Jocketty could project a 12-man staff for the first time since the majority of his bullpen and Morris filed for free agency or retired following last season. Octavio Dotel, whom the Cardinals had courted, signed a one-year deal with the New York Yankees on Tuesday.
