as much as he blew last year, some of it may have had something to do with his injury, which he had sugery on this offseason. he's not closer material, but i think he can do a decent job setting up.

I think he's got lots of potential, particularly under Duncan. My worries are his head. He's so inconsistant that I wonder if we're just getting a bullpen version of Marquis here.
So, I guess you could say I'm cautiously optimistic, or that I'm hoping for the best but expecting the worst.
Looper's a bargain compared to what Hendry spent on Howry and Eyre.
And say what you will about Braden, but he hasn't posted over a 4.00 ERA since '00, he has just under 90 saves over the last three years (including two w/ the crappy Mets), and he had phenomenal seasons in '02 and '04. He should be around his prime still at 31, and I think this was a great deal considering the market.
I have a feeling that we'll be looking back after another deep postseason run by the Cards and saying that this was a great deal.
Is there anything fluffier than a cloud? If there is, I don't want to know about it.

While I don't think it will get to that point, I think it is a pretty good signing by the Cards. A tad too much money IMO, but he should be pretty good there in StL.
This is a tad too much money, but eh, brings a legitmate set-up guy in for the Cardinals. Gives the Redbirds a closer, an 8th inning reliever, and a left in Rincon. Not the greatest bullpen in the world, but beats using a bunch of unproven talent in the 8th.
Cardinals still need an OF bat, but they're in a position to win the NL Central.
...Boston papers now and then suffer a sharp flurry of arithmetic on this score; indeed, for Williams to have distributed all his hits so they did nobody else any good would constitute a feat of placement unparalleled in the annals of selfishness. -Updike
