What exactly do the Royals have to do to get some respect in the league? They were blazing out of the gate and play as a team, unlike many of the superstar "for-me" players out there. Their biggest accomplishment is surviving a big slump in the middle of this half of the season and still being at the top of the division. Of course, since it is the Royals, everyone can't comprehend that they could still be in this when the playoffs start nearing. The problem is, no one imagined them winning their first game of the season, not to mention battling the Twins for the Central lead just weeks before the All-Star Break. Time to think out of the box and acknowledge the Royals everyone
The AL Central is pathetic. The AL East has 3 teams that have a better record than the Twins. That being said, obviously the WC won't come out of that division. I think the Royals will hang tight with the Twins until the end, but fall short by 5 games.
My predictions
AL East: Yanks (unfortunately)
AL Central: Twins
AL West: A's
WC: Mariners (with the Blue Jays giving a good run)
There is no way the Royals will come close to making the playoffs. The only reason that they are even somewhat in contention right now is the weakness of their division. If they were in the AL East or West, they'd be 15 games out by now.
The bottom line is that they have absolutely no proven starting pitching whatsoever and there is no way any team will compete with such a horrible rotation. Beyond Sweeney and Beltran (who will probably soon be traded), their offense is a joke and their bullpen is dreadful backed by the worst closer in the league. Half the time MacDougal's pitches are so erratic that he misses the catcher altogether.
Bottom line is the Twins and White Sox have a better offense, better bullpen, and better rotation. The Royals will be lucky to finish 3rd with a record around .500.
AL West -- Angels
AL Central -- Twins
AL East -- Toronto
Wild -- Boston
NL West -- Diamondbacks
NL Central -- Cubs
NL East -- Atlanta
Wild -- Montreal.
World Series.
Scenario 1) Montreal/Boston .. First ever World Series held in Puerto Rico. Boston loses of course. It couldn't be any other way.
Scenario 2) Chicago/Boston .. after both teams run out of pitchers in Game 7. Selig declares the "World Series" .. a tie?, with no winner. none. zip. Bud further proposes, that for the next World Series, the winner can have homefield advantage for the Home Run Derby.
World Series in Puerto Rico won't happen. If the Expos make the playoffs, they play in Montreal, end of story. They have already stated that no playoff games will be played in Puerto Rico because they are the MONTREAL Expos. Plus, the attendance they get in San Juan isn't much better than Montreal's attendance anyway.
