Nice deal for the Sox. Even if a slight disappointment since his new contract, Vazquez is in the prime of his career.

Moreover, I think this opens up a possible deal involving Jon Garland (whom I believe is a FA after this year). Given his success in 2005 & the fact he's still very young, he's likely to be too expensive.

Young's an okay hitter (I wouldn't expect him to hit over .250 -- even if he develops into an everyday player) & solid defender, but IMO both Anderson and Sweeney have greater potential in the bigs. I definitely don't mind dealing him for someone that'll help now.

;-D
Buerhle
Garcia
Garland (If the Sox happen to underachieve in 2006, he'll be dealt before the deadline. Might be regardless.)
Contreras
Vazquez

And Brandon McCarthy -- who is almost ready (if not already).

I'm sure no one thought Contreras would succeed at the Cell either, but he was one of the game's best pitchers in the 2nd half.

I don't think Thome has much left (and didn't really like that move), but Kenny Williams is spending the cash for a possible repeat.

I agree on Garland. He was part of the early rumor on the Vazquez trade and I woudl still not be surprised to the Sox move him over the offseason considering that McCarthy is around.

THis would not be a good move for the White Sox IMO. McCarthy is a lot cheaper and I doubt Vazquez will be successful in Chicago especially in that park.

This Vazquez deal looks interesting and would seem to slightly improve the White Sox staff but I'd love to see McCarthy starting for them. He was awesome at the end of last year.

Are we forgetting that Vazquez and the American League go together like oil and water?

could be a steal for the d'backs IF cyoung continues the progress that he showed this summer....the southern league saw 4 outstanding OFers (jfrancouer, delmon young, jhermida, cyoung) and young out performed all of them...better deal than most of the marlins everything must go sale

According to what I just read on ESPN, Vizcaino is involved as well if he passes his physical and Arizona could be eating some of Vazquez's salary.

jose Vizcaino?

McCarthy looked great last year. I wouldn't trade him if I had him. I would rather throw him out there see what he can do. There is a real chance that he can outproduce Vazqeuz as soon as 06.
