This is from CBS Sportsline:
The World Series champion Chicago White Sox are on the verge of acquiring starting pitcher Javier Vazquez from Arizona for pitcher Orlando "El Duque" Hernandez, a minor-league outfielder expected to be Chris Young and another pitcher, believed to be a reliever, according to CBS SportsLine.com sources.

Pretty good deal for the White Sox, if true. Young is a nice CF prospect, but it's nice to give up only Hernandez, rather than the rumored Garland. I assume Chicago assumes the whole contract.

El Duque, Chris Young, RP? That's a great deal for the Sox. Now the question is, where the hell is Chris Young going to play in that crowded OF

I suppose the White Sox considered Chris Young expendable with Brian Anderson and Jerry Owens in front of him. But it's somewhat peculiar that they would pursue an expensive starting pitcher that isn't markedly better than the ones they already have.
A Vazquez acquisition would have made more sense for a team lacking depth in starting pitching; as it stands the White Sox may have only just upgraded their 5th starter, while sending McCarthy (maybe a better pitcher at this point) assuredly back to the bullpen. It seems that there might have been a better way to use resources.

This is a great deal for the Dbacks. Chris Young is an absolute stud. El duque is a nice veteran to have on the staff who will produce nice numbers in the garbage nl west. Vaz back to the Al is bad news for him especially going to the best hr park in the league.

Yeah, I'm really thinking Young should have gotten them more. (I recant my first impression.

) He put up some fine numbers in AA as a 21-year-old (and he apparently plays very good defense):
.277/.377/.545, 26 HR, 32 SB, 70 BB in 466 AB.
