I've read talks continue between Mets/Rays about these 2.
If it happens, Baez goes into a setup role for Wagner for
sure. But what would Heilman's role be if he went to TB?
Into the rotation, or a shot at closing? Rays already have
JoeBo and Orvella...would Heilman jump them to the closer
role or become a starter?
If he was slotted as a starter, JoeBo or Orvella to close?
I did a search (found nothing addressing this) so forgive me
if a repeated or answered question already.
I almost think TB would be obligated to insert Heilman into the rotation with Borowski getting the job then Orvella gradualy taking it over around mid-season. TB has one of the worst roations in the big and only, and I do mean only, have Kazmir as an effective starter.
If this deal goes down, then I would think that Heilman goes into the rotation and Orvella would be given every opportunity to win the closers job out of spring training. Orvellas stuff is awesome and he will be a fantastic closer for the drays in the future, but Borowski may get the closers job for part of this year if Orvella is not quite mentally ready for the job yet.
The Rays continued trade talks on several fronts but, contrary to a New York Post report, have not offered closer Danys Baez for Mets pitcher Aaron Heilman. Though the Rays have interest, they likely would want more than Heilman for Baez.

Wow. The D-Rays are idiots. If i were a GM, there is no reason to even calling them anymore.
Because they won't give you a legit closer for a pitching prospect?
It's bargaining like this which enabled TB to steal Kazmir for Zambrano. Perhaps they trade according to the level of the other trade party? They know they can exploit the Mets so why not try?
The Rays are idiots if they want more than Heilman for Baez. Baez is crap lol. Mets could have just held onto Looper for setup, he was interested. Look at Heilman's second half numbers last season. I'd rather just keep him in the pen and have him as insurance for the rotation. From the sounds of it this is what the Mets intend to do.
Maine has a good swing for a pitcher but on anything that moves, he has no chance. And if it's a fastball, it has to be up in the zone. Basically, the pitcher has to hit his bat. - Mike Pelfrey

They tried to do the same thing with the Red Sox and Braves (2 smart management teams) and they ended up getting stuck with Lugo and losing out on one of the best prospects in baseball.

Baez is not great, but he is an adequate closer in the toughest division in the league. He has the stuff to move to the NL and have a much improved stat-line, IMO.
