Mine did it too. I sold it on eBay with a note of what it was doing. Still got some decent $$$. Now I have an Xb0x.
my XBox does that still I'll get the 360 once the price drops.
Thanks guys, I figured out I had to rotate some gear inside of it. Pretty easy, they had a bunch of step by step pages on the internet. Apparently this is a very popular problem. Thanks for all your help guys.

Glad to hear you got it fixed!
Yes doctor, I am sick. Sick of those who are spineless. Sick of those who feel self-entitled. Sick of those who are hypocrites. Yes doctor, an army is forming. Yes doctor, there will be a war. Yes doctor, there will be blood.....
It's as annoying as hell. I'm a big time PS2 fan but haven't had the cash to buy a new one. I sent it to a tech to get fixed and he couldn't fix it. I tried adjucting lense etc etc but no luck there either. So I'm selling it on ebay as we speak for spare parts etc, then i'll just buy another one. It sucks to know that your PS2 is a ticking time bomb waiting to go off. Playing MVP Baseball 2005 anywhere other than my bedroom seems wrong, which is why I haven't just settled for having it on my computer.
Here you got rynman, this is what I did and it started to work like new. You have to turn the rotating gear inside of the PS2 back a few clicks and it should work fine, read that site for a step by step process.

I have already tried that one RS, and it didn't work.
Anyways, I sold it just yesterday on ebay - got $80 for it (about 60 US), and at the same time bought an "as new" one for $130 (90 US). Not bad really....
