Nevermind, Javy's contract doesn't really matter in terms of this deal as Erstad makes the same amount.

Maybe this is why Miggy wants out? I heard he hates Ramon Hernandez and was good friends with Javy...

Well the O's cancel out Javy's contract (same amount, 1 year left on each)
Right. If you're going to trade javy at least get someone who's either good or makes less money. Getting erstad doesn't accomplish either.

Erstad is terrible. What a stupid move this would be by the Os.

While I am originally from North Dakota (as is Erstad) and now live in Bmore, please don't make this deal! Give me a break! when the news first broke that the O's were possibly dealing Lopez, I thought, "Hmmm, maybe they can use him to get a pitcher".
I am all for the O's getting Erstad, provided it's not for Lopez and the Angels eat a huge chunk of his salary.

This trade would accomplish nothing for the O's. Why would you want to down-grade your team especially when the money is exactly the same. Having two quality catchers is a luxory virtually no other team has. Granted Javy is aging but having him catch 1 out of every 5 days will keep Ramon healthy and fresh. He's obviously not going to repeat the 2003 season, but when he has been healthy he has put up very very respectible numbers more than serviceable as an American League DH.
G AB R HR RBI AVG/OBP/SLG/OPS
2004 150 579- 83 23 86 .316 .370 .503 .873
2005 103 395- 47 15 49 .278 .322 .458 .780
I don't buy the defense argument, if that was the case Pokey Reese would have trade value. If your going to trade Javy atleast get a + player and one who will fill a real need.
