Bengie Molina: Screwed?

Postby BronXBombers51 » Thu Dec 08, 2005 8:11 pm

The Mets got Lo Duca. The Orioles got Hernandez. The Diamondbacks got Estrada. The Angels declined to offer him arbitration.

Where is this guy going to play next year? I cannot think of a place that would be interested. I've concocted a crazy idea where the Yankees would sign him and platoon him and Posada between C and DH, but that's extremely farfetched. Would be nice though. B-)

Where is Molina going?

Houston is an interesting situation since they'll save alot of money by losing Clemens. That looks like a fit since Ausmus is gone. I'm not sure Pittsburgh will offer up the money he'll want, and I'm not sure how to gauge anything that LA does. :-?

I just don't see Molina succeeding anywhere. He'll get signed, but he's riding a reputation as a defensive catcher and riding the media spotlight on the "Molina Brothers."

He's going to lose money wherever it is. Hernandez lost ~$1.2M based on what the Mets had offered him. Molina was offered the same contract and I'd expect he'll end up signing for a little less than Hernandez did.

Maine has a good swing for a pitcher but on anything that moves, he has no chance. And if it's a fastball, it has to be up in the zone. Basically, the pitcher has to hit his bat. - Mike Pelfrey

yeah, he missed his chance i believe. the astros would have been a good spot, but they offered ausmus arbitration so i think they'll sign him soon enough. the pirates could be another fit, but does he really want to go to a losing team?

Do you guys think he will come back to Anaheim at a bargain price? I wouldn't mind signing him to a 2 year deal. We need to eventually get Mathis up to the big leagues to see what he can do, but I just don't want to sign the tub of jelly to 3 or 4 years.

They didn't offer him arbitration. He can't even negotiate with them again until May 1st. That's what was really surprising about all this. I thought they'd offer it to him for sure.

I wasn't thinking, I knew that was the case when you don't offer arbitration. Thanks for reminding me.

I was bummed to see Bengie part ways, but the more time goes by the more I am excited about Mathis. I don't think he will produce like Bengie right away, but he needs to get his shot.

The Angels have a great farm system, but everyone seems to be blocked right now. At least we moved one FAT roadblock out of the way.
