The Pirates make out huge on this deal IMO. Marte is a stud, he just doesn't have any control :-?

And now the Pirates might have the best lefty RP combo in the league...

Is anybody aware of what has happened to Marte in the last 3 years?

Marte The Last 3 Years:
IP WHIP SLG OBA BB SO
79.2 1.05 .266 .280 34 87
73.2 1.22 .357 .309 34 68
45.1 1.72 .409 .382 33 54

That's what you call a trend, people.

I'll gladly take a guy who can play multiple positions, most importantly back-up 3rd base where Joe Crede is battling herniated discs. Not to mention, he swings a decent stick from the left side off the bench. He's great insurance to have on a playoff-caliber team's BENCH.

Marte quit on his team, walking away for 5 days, in the middle of a playoff race. I'm fine with the Pirates taking his declining skills and attitude for a useful utility, team-oriented player.

If you don't know the facts, you're not fit to comment.

Nice move for the Pirates. Gave up a normally backup utility man for one of the best RP in the game. Don't know what the White Sox were thinking with this, I know they have a crowded bullpen and all and it's one of the best in the league but they could've probably gotten a lot more than just Mackowiak.

They are thinking that Marte wasn't going to help them anymore, and his declining stats are something I don't want with the Pirates. :-P

Man, I hate being so down on my team, but these moves are not netting us someone that will really help the team. This is yet another questionable move IMO. Mackowiak was our super-sub player that we plugged in when someone got hurt. He did well for a little while and then slumped mightily at the end of last year. He should have been worth more to a team than a struggling pitcher like Marte.

Marte/Grabow won't be able to become a top left RP combo - one of them will get traded to someone along with Craig Wilson for a 3B almost guaranteed. We'll trade the good one (Grabow) and keep Marte...book it. :-t

Did I mention that Marte was once a Pirates prospect, and we gave up on him because of his control problems? If you can't make it with Pittsburgh, why do you retake him? :-? :-B :-B

If we trade Wilson and Grabow for someone like Bill Mueller, I'm going to be very mad. The only people that interest me at all are Nomar and Blalock...and I really don't think Blalock would be that good because of his horrid road splits and our big ballpark.

One of the best RP's in the game? Maybe 2 or 3 years ago.

THis is a good move by the Sox bringing a South Sider back home.
