Twins 3B issues

Postby savvy_stu » Thu Dec 08, 2005 1:01 pm

Now that Soriano has been traded from the Rangers, I think it's safe to assume that the Rangers won't be trading Hank Blalock.

:,-( So, it wouldn't seem as though my Twins will get their relief from the Lonestar State.

To make matters worse, our Plan B named Marte got sent to Boston this morning. So, it would seem we missed the boat there as well.

I actually preferred a trade for Marte to a trade for Blalock, but now it seems as though neither of them will be suiting up for the Twins...

So... Where next?

I've heard that the Orioles are interested in Kyle Lohse... But I haven't heard anything about whom they would be sending. Any chance that they'd send us Mora?

I'd say they look to Bos (Youk/Lowell), TAM (Huff), Tor (Shea, Koskie, Hinske), SF (Alfonzo), LAA (Quinlin/Kotchman/McPherson), Cle (Blake/Boone), NYY (Duncan), or FA Mueller.

Is Blalock really a done deal? They still need pitching though right? Romero + Baker is a pretty fair offer. Or would losing Sori and Hank be to much?

I'd maybe gamble on Lowell for Romero, nothing more though.

Nothing else on that list thrills me that more then Cuddyer...

Twins say Baker & Liriano are off limits. Maybe they could package Durbin/Romero/Cuddyer/Lohse for somebody. I Like over Cuddyer easy.

Boston:
Youkalis has no power
The Twins apparently did inquire about Lowell, but scoffed when the Red Sox asked for Juan Rincon as part of the deal.

TB
Huff's got the bat, but he's missing the glove we need there.

Toronto
Koskie's contract is probably too big to take on.
I don't know much about Hinske and Hillenbrand, though I think I recall them as having sub-par defense.

Anaheim
I like the potential in Kotchman or McPherson

SF
Alfonso wouldn't be a bad option either, though I'd imagine that he has a hefty contract.

Cleveland
I don't want the Twins to send pitching to the Indians..

NYY
New York probably won't send us Duncan because all of the sudden their decent young talent is untouchable for anything short of a Hall of Famer.

Free Agency
I'm almost positive we're not going to get Mueller, I think we cut out of negotiations w/ him a while ago.

I still think they should look at Nomah though!

I read that Baker isn't totally off limits. Baker would be a massive loss, however if you add Mench and Blalock to a lineup with two 370+ on base guys and mix Morneau and Hunter in there too and a staff of Johan/Radke/Silva/Liriano/Loshe and that bullpen might make a nice race between CLE and CHW and MIN.

Castillo
Mauer
Stew
Blalock
Hunter
Morneau
Mench/Kubel/Ford - RF
Mench/Kubel/Ford/Cuddyer/FA - DH
SS - Bartlett/Punto/FA

Not a bad lineup, I'd say lets trade Baker to get this

Stewert? That's not a bad idea, all three are great... I want a produce now guy though. I also liek Baker and would feel bad if his awesome stuff goes to Coors.

Joeg, you may be right. If we could land Mench AND Blalock, I'd be fine with giving up Baker.

Not sure what source it was this morning but I got there thru Baker's yahoo page (rotoworld?), it said the deal is out there.

Yeah Baker is a massive loss as he's shaping to be a great replacement of Radke in 2007. This year we'll be fine w/o him, next year it would be Johan/Silva/Liriano/???/??? Durbin? Perkins? FA? Bonser? Baker would be a nice #4 of corse... but the offense would take a massive step forward with adding Blalock who even away from Tex should hit 25-30 and Mench should be a 20-25. Those are massive numbers in our history. Adding those two would do wonders to Morneau's confidence I gurentee.

One "could be" for two "already are" is a good deal anytime
