WFAN in New York has reported the news. The two sides will probably work out a deal for Bernie.

It could be a deal in which he agrees not to accept it, and they work out a contract on their own. This may just be a move to extend the timeframe to negotiate.
In any case, I'm glad there's a good chance he'll be back in NY. Hopefully he'll end his career where he started it. I also think he could succeed in the Ruben Sierra type role of DH/PH off the bench. Hopefully they get a deal done with him soon.

He's my favorite Yank of all time (OK, my lifetime) and I am very happy. You are correct as he will decline the offer. He'll probably get about 400 ABs at the most.

Assuming he is (wink wink) going to decline aritration, Bernie will be the regular CF by June after Crosby or Jacque Jones goes April-May batting .225 with 5 Hrs and 14 rbis and the Yanks are 10 games out because 3 starters are on the DL again. Torre will revert to what he knows best...unfortunately it is what he knows best from the late 90's.
