The Brewers and Blue Jays are continuing to work on a Lyle Overbay deal, with the Blue Jays offering Shea Hillenbrand and a young pitcher.
David Bush, David Purcey and Zach Jackson are mentioned as possibilities. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel also says that the Brewers would likely get Hillenbrand in order to trade him, possibly to Minnesota. Dec. 7 - 8:48 pm et

Mariners' Meche a pitcher Reds may pursue
December 7
Dayton Daily News (registration required): "Meche is not a free agent, but there are reports that his Seattle team may not tender him a contract by today's deadline, making him a free agent, and a pitcher the Reds might pursue. He was 10-8 with a 5.09 ERA in 26 starts for the last-place Mariners."

Jays make overture to Garciaparra
December 7
Globe and Mail: "The agent for Nomar Garciaparra, Arn Tellem, met yesterday with the Toronto Blue Jays, according to general manager J.P. Ricciardi. 'Nomar's a player we have interest in,' said Ricciardi, who will now focus on adding offence to his lineup."

Coco Crisp- Braves, Padres among several teams who inquired, but were rebuffed

Adam Everett- ATL was interested, but were told he's not avaliable

Wilson Betemit- drawing a lot of interest...Tigers rejected a Craig Monroe for Betemit swap because they wanted a pitcher in the deal as well

Aki Otsuka- Padres are likely to deal him now...BOS, ATL and NYM are among possible trade partners

Mike Sweeney- the Angels deny interest in him...rumors were that they shot down an offer of Sweeney for Casey Kotchman and Brandon Wood

Kaz Matsui- the Rockies want him in exchange for Aaron Miles if the Mets pay Matsui's 8M salary....Devil Rays will have interest if NYM pick up most of his salary...LAD interested in him as OF...NYM also working on deals to send him back to Japan...appears as though he will be dealt within the next week with NYM picking up most of his salary

ESPN reported that the Reds were looking for a pair of left handed starters for Adam Dunn. The Jays are looking for hitting and they have Chacin and Lily would the Reds even think of doing this?

I don't know why the Reds, who finally made an intellgent move, would do that. DO NOT TRADE DUNN!

According to the Boston Globe's Gordon Edes, the Dodgers, A's and Giants are all out of the chase for David Wells, leaving only the Padres negotiating with Boston.
With Trevor Hoffman back, the Padres can afford to give up one of their relievers for Wells. They might be able to get Boston to take Woody Williams if they put Scott Linebrink into the deal. The Red Sox aren't taking Williams to get Otsuka. ESPN's Peter Gammons speculated that the Red Sox wouldn't deal Wells until January, when most of the free agent starters were off the market. When you copy something word for word off another site, you should properly cite the site.
