Todd Jones signs w/Det

odd Jones will return to the Tigers on a two-year deal, according to the Detroit News.
The Tigers have absolutely no faith that Troy Percival will make it back, so Jones is probably going to be the team's closer, with Fernando Rodney occupying a setup role. No financial details yet, but the deal will probably be worth at least $8 million-$10 million. Dec. 7 - 6:18 pm et

whew, well, he's better then what the O's have at Closer now. However, I'm glad they didn't invest too much money in him.

Whatever happened to Troy Percival? I know he's old and aged but still....do the Tigers even have him anymore?

Yeah, Troy is still on Det and says he'll be ready by ST (don't know if that's true). Det, like Mil & ChW, actually have a lot of pitchers with closing ability (Rodney, German, Jones, Percival, Spurling). Maybe they should trade some of these guys, you think??? Duh.

I just read it again and realized it looks to be a 2 year deal for $8-10M. I guess that means $4-5M per.

That's much more reasonable.

I think this is a pretty good signing for Det. This is a guy with 226 career saves and they are getting him for 4-5 mil a year. Now if only they hadn't dumped all of that money into Percival last year :-?

I would guess that if you take Jones in a draft it wouldnt hurt to grab Percival either. If Percival is back for spring training it will be intresting to see who gets the job.

There will come a day when Barry Bonds leaves baseball, and everything about the game will be the better for it.
