Mark Loretta will be traded to the Red Sox for Doug Mirabelli, the Boston Herald reports. It's all but done and could be announced later today. Loretta is only scheduled to make $3.75 million after a trade bonus, so it looks like a very good deal for Boston. He could bat second regardless of whether Edgar Renteria returns. Dustin Pedroia will have to return to Triple-A, perhaps for the full season. However, the Red Sox could look at Pedroia at shortstop if they trade Renteria
I don't like losing Mirabelli, considered the best backup catcher in the game and Wake's personal catcher, but I suppose Shoppach can backup Tek now. Downside to that though is Shoppach probably can't be used in any deals.
I like getting Loretta. As the blurb stated, he can bat 2nd and if Rent stays, move Rent down in the order. Just hope his wrist is healed
This should raise Loretta's fantasy value, right? Going from SD to BOS.

Take a look at him in spring training. If he looks like the guy who was a late bloomer pre wrist operation then go after him but if he looks like the guy we saw after the injury then you can afford to wait alittle longer.
As a sox fan, I love this deal. The Sox are getting a career 300 hitter with decent defense at 2B, for a back up catcher.
Losing Mirabelli does hurt defensive wise, but I'm sure Tek and Wakefield can work it out during the offseason/spring training.

Great trade even though it is sad to see Mirabelli go. He was probably the best backup in the league and had some clutch hits in a red sox uniform. He always seemed to hit that homerun when the team needed it most (granted he wasnt in the lineup often). But now Loretta can fill a void at second and is an upgrade over Tony G.
