Mets/Zito Heating Up

Postby phillibuster » Wed Dec 07, 2005 9:48 am

Many sources today have the Mets re-interested in their pursuit of Zito. They were talking possible extension for Zito. This will also be contingent on them moving Benson, most likely for MacDougal or Affeldt from KC. I like Zito.

Great deal for the Mets if they get him. Pedro, Zito, Glavine, Zambrano, Seo is a solid rotation with a better bullpen with Macdougal and Wagner.

My thoughts exactly, however I can also see Glavine, Seo, and Zambrano having standard mediocre years. The Zito signing is important, becasue I don't think Benson is the pitcher that the Mets thought they were getting. It'd actually be:

Pedro/Zito/Glavine/Trachsel/Seo or Zambrano

I like Trachsel better than Glavine, Seo or Zambrano next year. Hopefully Seo can continue what he started at the end of 05.

It will most likely take Milledge to get him. Which means no Manny.

Milledge and/or Heilman, probably...no Manny is fine with me...the following lineup should do quite OK if Reyes can take a couple walks and they move Beltran to 2. Pitching/relief is where they should be fine-tuning.

Reyes
Beltran
Wright
Delgado
Floyd
LoDuca
Diaz/Nady
Kaz/Hernandez/Keppinger

What the Mets CANNOT do is get Zito for Millege and/or Heilman without an extension, I think Zito would otherwise be a FA next year.

I agree the lineup looks good. The SP behind Pedro is suspect IMO.

What exactly did they think they were getting I wonder? His 2005 stats look pretty much in line with what he has done for his career. :-?

Landing a top #2 pitcher behind Pedro is more key for the Mets imo then getting another bat. Zito will definitely improve their rotation to the point of making them a big time favorite in the NL for 06 and with 2 studs at the top of the rotation, the Mets will be able to make some noise in the playoffs as well.

Santa Claus,

All I want for Xmas is Barry Zito in a Mets uniform.

I left cookies on the table.
