The Florida Marlins have tentatively agreed on a four-player deal that would send Juan Pierre to the Chicago Cubs, for three young pitchers -- Sergio Mitre and prospects Renyel Pinto and Ricky Nolasco, ESPN.com's Jayson Stark reported early Wednesday.
The deal is pending physicals examinations.
So far this offseason, the Marlins have traded Carlos Delgado, Josh Beckett, Mike Lowell, Luis Castillo, Paul Lo Duca and Guillermo Mota. Pitcher A.J. Burnett, who signed with the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday, left via free agency.
The 28-year-old Pierre hit .276 and stole 57 bases this past season and is eligible for arbitration. He earned $3.7 million last season.
Pierre is expected to lead off and play center field in Chicago.
I'll take this deal for the Cubs....Mitre really isn't anything special and while both Pinto and Nolasco have some potential we have other pitching prospects that should fill in fine. Finally got a leadoff man we needed, now just hopefully he returns to 04 form.
great trade for the cubs. seems like they acted fast after missing out on furcal and finally got the lead-off hitter they wanted. good for the cubbies.

Agreed. Should someone tell Dusty that Juan is a legitimate lead-off guy and he doesn't need to "tinker" with the lineup every flipping day?
Nice deal for the Cubs,as the 2 prospects are not great by any means. They both could help the Marlins in a few years or so but by no means are the best the Cubs had to offer. If Pierre can get his groove back the top 4 or 5 of the Cubs order should be very dangerous. A healthy Prior and Wood all season long will definitely give the Cubs a chance against the Cards
geez you would have thought the cubs would have had to give up rich hill .. seems like the marlins are rolling over on these deals when they could hold out for a lil better prospect..mitre is worse than most pitchers currently on the marlins and rpinto's stock has fallen..i didnt expect the marlins to get felix pie but hill and nolasco would have been better
