Funny thing is that everybody says oh Furcal got 13MM per, and Damon is just as good. Well, earier in the offseason, Matsui, who is pretty darn good, signed for 4/52 and he had the Yankees over a barrel. As a Red Sox fan, I would be comfortable going up to 4/48, but I'm not sure they'll do it. The reason? He is the catalyst for the entire offense and makes their offense go. If they do go higher than this, they definitely lose Manny for $$ reasons. Not to hijack the thread, but if we could get rid of Clement/Nixon for Abreu, I would be okay with the trading of Manny

But Matusi is an aging slugger/leftfielder, Damon is an Aging leadoff hitter/centerfielder. He could be Bernie Williams at the end of the contract

my thoughts exactly. The 06 and 07 Damon will be worth 10 mill, but how about the 08 and 09 Damon??? And more than likely he will be basically untradeable as nobody will want to have that 10 mill contract on a aging CF
maybe not broken yet but he definitely is old and I don't see him being any good at the end of a 4 year contract, much less a 7 year one he wanted before.
Leyland said, "We thought we were getting a hell of a player, but Neifi simply did not perform well."

Dont forget that he throws like a girl.
Yeah, what's up w/ he and Eric Byrnes? It's a cross between a QB's form and a left handed girl in gym class.
I would not be entirely against giving Damon a 3 year contract but I would NOT go 4. Damon can still give you 2 very productive years, and likely one down year in 2008. That's as far as I'd go with him though.
