The member of the press that wrote this should be shot.

Dude: Do you have a link for these rumours? Because that is possibly the worst rumour I have heard....

Gordon Edes wrote that paticular rumor. With the market for starters (paul Bryd) it isn't SO crazy, but it is just a rumor.

That rummor is crazy... Billy should be fired if he allows David Wells on that staff. Too many good, young and talented pitchers on that team.

A couple more rumors:

Casey to the Pirates for Dave Williams.

Bill Mueller has reportedly been offered a two year deal by the Pirates.

It's crazy because Duke would be a better starter in 06 than Wells, PLUS he is younger and cheaper....and the A's give another player on top of that. Is Edes an east coast reporter/writer?

He works for the Globe. But Sean McAdam also mentioned the A's were interested in Wells, but he didn't mention any names.

If the Sox can get Loretta for Mirabelli.... 8-o Thats a steal. A backup catcher for a solid 2B to fill a void....that would be a great move. I highly doubt SD would want to do that unless they see themselves with no shot of signing Molina or Hernandez.

ESPN's Peter Gammons thinks the A's are in the lead for David Wells, with Justin Duchscherer possibly going back to the Red Sox.
Duchscherer from Oakland makes a lot more sense than prospects from the Dodgers. The Padres seem to be focusing more on the Doug Mirabelli-for-Mark Loretta deal at the moment. Gammons also said he thinks Frank Thomas to Oakland could get done quickly

If the Sox could get Duchscherer and Loretta while only giving up Wells and Mirabelli I'd be happy. Just hope it doesn't alienate Wake :-/

Sure would be curious, especially since they just signed Loiaza. Maybe they're working on a Zito deal?

I don't get it either... Maybe if they trade Saarloos AND Zito, AND don't think Meyer or Rheinecker is ready, AND don't trust Kennedy enough to start every five days (don't blame 'em), then it could begin to make sense, but even then... why not just start Duke, along with another player??

This is hard to believe. I'd be dead shocked to see Wells in an A's uniform come ST. If we get him, I think we trade him right away... Maybe we hold off on the Bradley deal until we get Wells, then swing him and Saarloos to LA to get Bradley plus more of the top Dodgers prospects? That's the only other reason I can think of.
