Some of the hot rumors from the lobby:

David Wells will not go to the Padres, but Loretta could still go the Red Sox straight up for Doug Maribelli.

David Wells could go to the A's for Duchscherer and another player. There have also been talks with the Giants and the Dodgers.

LAA might get Manny in a three team deal involing the D-Backs (Red sox would get Erstad and Glaus along with prospects).

Prior is either about to be traded for Abreu or not traded at all (a lot of conflicting talk here, i think the Phills are trying drive up Abreu's price).


Also the braves are interest in Edgar Renteria.

The Yankees and Tigers are NOT looking at Damon.

The tigers are looking at pitchers (Millwood?)

the Mariners are looking at Millwood for three years.

I haven't heard anything about any Vernon Wells rumours. Ricciardi has basically said he is untouchable.

Prior for Abreu? Im not sure how Id feel about this. I love Prior, but the Cubs have quite a bit of pitching within thier system. Abreu is a stud...I really would be surprised to see this develop but I cant say Id be mad if the Cubs made the move. Prior could be the best in MLB, but Abreu isnt too shabby as a starting OF.

i like your analysis here. i read this in a philly daily news article this morning on the train... i said what! no way cubs do that... there can't be any "real" gms who believe that abreu is a gold glover, right...? i pretty sure he just trades in his legs for a glove when he goes out into the field... he's just a juiced up torso shaggin' flies.. on a lighter note, i do like what gillick's done so far... i may have caught a very small case of phillies fever... i'm wary though...

With his contract he's one of the best values in all of baseball. They'd be crazy to trade him.

Gordon Edes wrote that paticular rumor. With the market for starters (paul Bryd) it isn't SO crazy, but it is just a rumor.
