Wonder if he's the new closer. :-?

Maine has a good swing for a pitcher but on anything that moves, he has no chance. And if it's a fastball, it has to be up in the zone. Basically, the pitcher has to hit his bat. - Mike Pelfrey

:-° unexpected. but i think he gets a shot in 2006. they want to give ray a chance to mature and probably spend some more time setting up. however i wont be surprised to see hawkins lose the job in the first month if he stinks it up.[/b]

Just wondering...

Hasn't Hawkins tried closing before. If I remember right it hasn't worked out well. ;-)

Well, they were talking to Todd Jones in order to ease Ray into the transisition of closer, hopefully this is a precursor to getting rid of Julio (I sure don't want both of these guys in the bullpen along w/ Steve Klein). Yes, I would imagine they will give Hawkins ample opportunities to start the season as the closer. I wouldn't worry too much about the Baltimore closer though (outside of Baltimore), because w/ their current squad they aren't winning more than 70 games.

duchserer did VERY well last year, and the A's know that bullpen help is thin this year. i bet you they ask for a top offensive prospect like milledge in return.

Ducscherer (sp?) will be much more difficult to obtain then Hawkins. I'm interested to see what the O's gave up for him, there isn't even any information on the team's website yet.
