this made me laugh. it was inappropriate for a professor of this kind of class, but it was still funny:

Mirecki had referred to religious conservatives as "fundies," and said a course describing intelligent design as mythology would be a "nice slap in their big fat face." He has apologized for those comments

Pathetic. Some people cannot handle other people's freedom. :-t :-t

However, it is exceedingly stupid that that guy made those comments. If he hadn't gotten his butt kicked, I probably would have wanted to go ahead and kick it, he's certainly not helping the science community with an attitude like that. :-t :-t

True. It seems that he made those comments to get more attention. Now it looks like he got too much.

He definitely should not have made those comments, but the beating is just senseless.

One word: ignorance.

In this case, presumably on both sides. But the professor didn't physically harm anyone with his comments, and I'd hardly call what he said deserving of a beating.

Welcome to rural Kansas folks, where if you don't believe in God, you're gonna get your ass kicked. A, my country tis of thee....

Man only FSM knows what FSM would do. Although I'd guess he'd turn those hillbillies into tomato sauce.
