if we signed AJ, it seemed pretty clear the plan was to package marquis for something nice in the field (OF or 2b), and then bargain shop for the rest. anyone know what plan b is?

its not so much that i dislike marquis, but i thought the combination of him and wainwright could have fetched a decent reasonably priced player. now it seems if we are to work a trade it would have to involve prospects that i dont really want to give up. it seems a slim chance they sign a different free agent starter and then trade marquis.

I don't see the Cards going after another SP. They haven't shown much interest in Millwood or Morris. I've heard a rumor of signing Bill Mueller to play 2B. All in all though the Cards set their sites on Burnett and once that is settled I think you will see a bunch of moves just like last year with Renteria.

..i doubt bmueller will play 2B..his knnes wouldnt allow it and he didnt want to play there for the sox..could nomar be an option at 2b ?

I thought landing Jacque Jones would have been nice. He's not a consistant hitter, but has a little pop and plays a solid OF. Now he signs with the Cubs. Is there a reason Walt doesn't think the Card's need another OF?

j.jones is basically just a jeromey burnitz clone. the cards need an outfielder, but they dont need that one. i think its best to just past than get locked into three years with an outfielder you dont really like.
