Hernandez Trade

Postby Pogotheostrich » Fri Jun 20, 2003 2:47 pm

Just wondering what all the Cubs fans thought about this trade. The trade itself doesn't seem too bad. But why would the Cubs go after Hernandez when Lowell is going to be (or already is) available. It seems like every year the Cubs ownership strive for mediocrity.

It's a typical Cubs trade. A major hole in the offense and Hendry trys another stop gap fix. Hellborn had got to the point he couldn't hit the ground if he fell off a bar stool, but Hernandez, Damn. The guy strikes out more than he hits the ball.

Hopefully this wont keep us from going after Lowell. The Fish just aint interested yet. Maybe closer to the allstar break some thing good will happen. Its gonna take Cruz, Hill and another prospect (Beltran, Sisco, Welly...) to get it done. Which is a steep price if Lowell doesnt sign long term.

Well, maybe Hernandez can put up the stats he had as a cubbie previously, he may strike out a lot but he can still hit for some power...

In his first 2 games with the Rockies, Bellhorn was 3-6 with 3 BB. :-?

I agree cwebb, but how do you justify a few more HR's vs. the number of K's he will put up. Hernandez has 97 for the season! Besides I am of the point now that Baker would play Harris over Lowell ever if we were able to pick him up. Harris is "hitting the interstate" (a CHI term).

And willie. I saw where Mark went 3-6, but the thing is, the last time he went 3-6 for the Cubbies was May 2-3 (ironically against the Rockies). After that he went 2 for 17. For the Cubbies he was batting .209 at 3B and .200 as a PH. I hope he finds his swing in Colorado, cause he sure didnt have it at the friendly confines.

Just as a side note, Bellhorn took the 3B job away from Chris Stynes in Chicago, wonder if it will happen in Col.?

I wish Baker would play Hernandez or Martinez at 3rd until something different (which is our only hope) is done. Our 3b inability to hit the ball and Estes and Clements inconsistency on the mound will be the undoing of this team.

Mr. Hendry, please get us a 3B and a decent number 4 or 5 starter and move Welly, Guzman or Cruz into the other spot!
