Apparently Abreu is on the market for pitchting. His name has been linked to alot of number two type pitchers.
The rumor i hear most often is a proposed Matt Clement and Trot Nixon for Abreu deal. This trade seems one sided, and i found it hard to imagine Philly moving Abreu for that. But it has been mentioned by many members of the media, including some of the most respected writers (Gammons, Stark, ect).
I, as a Red Sox fan want this trade, but i doubt it would happen.
Saying that deal is a steal would be an understatement. No way the Phils do this unless they are adamant about clearing cap space (even then the trade makes no sense).
If the Red Sox could get Abreu for that plus whatever value they get for Manny if/when they deal him, I would tend to think they'll make out well at the winter meetings. Not saying trading Manny would be/is beneficial because it's not, but getting Abreu in a non-Manny deal is pretty appealing, especially when no prospects are involved (except Shoppach who was mentioned, who the Sox don't really need soon with Varitek locked up).

agree.
If the Red Sox get a Abreu with losing Manny . That would a nice 3-4-5. Abreu would get the kind of pitches he saw in the homerun derby.
