Loduca To Mets

I was hoping that it was just a ploy to get Hernandez :-t

Mets get Lo Duca from Marlins

DALLAS - The Mets have found their catcher, acquiring the Marlins' Paul Lo Duca for Class A right-hander Gabriel Hernandez and at least one other minor leaguer, FOXsports.com has learned.

Lo Duca, owed $12.5 million over the next two seasons, will be less expensive to the Mets than the two free-agent catchers to whom the team had made offers, Ramon Hernandez and Bengie Molina.
The Diamondbacks, who had interest in Lo Duca, could end up signing Hernandez or Molina, but likely won't want to pay market value. Few other teams have an obvious need at catcher, though the Phillies, Yankees and several other clubs might bid for Hernandez and/or Molina if they trade their present catchers. It also is possible that the Angels could re-sign Molina.

Gabriel Hernandez, 19, was 6-1 with a 2.43 ERA for Class A Hagerstown last season and 2-5 with a 5.74 ERA for Class A St. Lucie.

Ken Rosenthal is the senior baseball writer for FOXSports.com.

We wouldn't be completely stunned if this leads to Lo Duca going to the Diamondbacks in a Javier Vazquez deal, but it's more likely that Lo Duca will be the Mets' regular catcher. Dec. 4 - 6:16 pm et

I hope this is true and then we sign Hernadez!

hard to believe that minaya would trade for lo duca wen he could've gotten a much better catcher for less than a million more a year. his trades always surprise me, and not in a good way.

I like this deal it is only an aquire and deal move. Looks like Willingham may catch after and possibly bat clean up, that should be interesting :-o !

Yeah, I don't quite understand it. The Mets don't seem to be that concerned about salary and then they trade for a catcher instead of spending the extra million and getting a better one? Maybe the Vaz trade goes through.

Agreed, this trade was a real eye-brow raiser.

I'm not sure that's true. I think that both Hernandez and Molina had upped the ante to close to $8 million. I think Omar didn't want to get into a bidding war and got tired of them both trying to play everyone against each other.
