Are you effing kidding me? I'd stimate the payroll to be close on $130m if this goes through.

Hmm. Your estimation would be off. The Mets are at ~$90M right now. If they were to swap those two salaries they'd still be at ~$90M.

EDIT: Correction. It's more like $95M with Lo Duca.

Maine has a good swing for a pitcher but on anything that moves, he has no chance. And if it's a fastball, it has to be up in the zone. Basically, the pitcher has to hit his bat. - Mike Pelfrey

That's a hefty $9.4 million to be able to do that to the payroll.

As I said in the Billy Wagner to the Mets thread, if the Mets don't win the NL East this year that is pretty damn sad.

Well, at least most of Minaya's moves have been somewhat long-term, or mid-term I guess. This is for sure a short-term acqusition and an expensive 1 at that. I just think it is short sighted. Maybe this will enable them to get rid of Matsui by taking on Kent's contact but there are far better 2nd base options out there. What happened to getting Soriano?

How is Soriano far better than Kent? He's younger and faster, and that's where I run out of ideas.

Well, see, Soriano is actually a worse player than Kent. He's worse defensively (although Kent is no Gold Glover) and he's worse offensively (have you seen Sori's away splits? 8-o ). Kent is a better option and he (probably) won't cost an arm and a leg because I'm guessing LA is trying to dump some salary after the Furcal signing.
