I was 2nd to act and 2nd in chips - 3 left in Texas hold'em NL tourny. I was delt K-K. 1st to act put in 1/4 of his chips. I call and re-raise to bring him 1/2. 3rd position folds. 1st postion guy calls. Flop comes up with 4-7-J. 2 spades, and a heart. He checkes and I go all in - HE CALLS!

He had 2 spades and gets his 5th spade on the turn. Was this a bead beat or poor play on my part? THis knocked me out of the toruny because I had just enough left for the next hands blinds.

It's neither. Not a bad play, not that bad of a beat though it is more of a bad beat than a bad play. After the flop, with half his chips committed, I could certainly see him putting it all in the middle to try and hit his flush.

Actually I think it was ok because there was so few people in the hand. He had a strong preflop. The fact that there was only 2 other people raises his chances of catching his flush.

with A-10 suited even if you went all in pre-flop he probably would have called. Nothing you could do there. :-/

Three way in a tourney, you are probably right. Nothing you can do. Just how the cards fell.

Preflop you were 67% to win the hand (even higher than that if you had the king of spades). He was roughly 1 in 3 to make his flush after the flop, but with 3 aces as outs as well, he was closer to 43% to win the hand after the flop.

Tough beat and a rough way to go out, but I think even if you went all in preflop, he still would have called. Nothing you could do on that one, but you did get your chips in the pot with the best hand, so you played it right. Rough beat though.

Bad beat. You had the best hand and an overpair. Not a terrible play on his part either though.
