Trading for Mench?

Excuse my ignorance here, as I am but a casual Blue Jays fan, but how does trading Rios and Batista or Rios and League for Mench make the Blue Jays any better?

Sure, Mench hits for power and the Jays need that, but Rios hits for the same average and is more of a threat on the basepaths. Add to this, he is younger than Mench and still has room to develop and I am not even sure that I would trade Rios straight up for Mench.

Why have I been hearing so much about this deal then?

Well Mench did hit 25 HR with a .489 SLG and we are sorely lacking in power. Rios is no great shakes on the basepaths and he has not developed as quickly as we had hoped.

I would trade him straight up for Mench but I think that the Rangers want more than Rios. I would not trade anything more than Rios though. His defence is underrated and it looks like we are going to be a pitching and D team.

I've heard both of these rumors, but now I'm hearing Batista for Mench straight up is a possibility. Mench would be a solid hitter with some pop in our lineup, and I wouldn't mind if he came here.

I'm open to the idea of trading Rios for Mench, the Jays just don't have the time to wait for this guy to develop, they want to win now.

I've been hearing more about Batista straight up for Mench, but I doubt that will happen unless the Jays sign Burnett.

Now that Burnett looks to be out of the picture, which FA starter do the Jays go after next (or do they go the trade route-Zito?)?
A few options are Millwood, Washburn, Weaver, and Morris. Out of those guys, I would prefer Millwood, and I admit none of them have the potential or the "stuff" Burnett has, but atleast they are much cheaper.

JP will probably have to save some. I mean, he'll probably give an extension to Halladay and i'm pretty sure he'll be making a trade that will cost a bit.
