Right, but

Otsuka would actually be the most valuable in the deal. He'd add another stable arm to a pen reading reconstruction.
D-Mat, Schilling, Beckett, and Papelbon - Wow!

I hate the deal.
I would rather give Pedroia a chance rather than getting Loretta.
I don't like Otsuka either. His road ERA last year was horrible.
Besides, I don't think Shoppach can catch Wakefield's knuckleball.

..very poor deal for the sox..weakens the backup C slot (especially w/wakefield throwing every 5th day) and loretta's #s are very empty..i am guessing loretta's salary is pretty high too

After watching Varitek try to catch Wakefield last year I'm not sure how Shoppach can do it--and every 5th game off for 'Tek is very important when you consider how tired and unproductive he was in September. If we all think Cora/Pedroia can get it done then the deal is counterproductive, unless like Hanley and Edgar's signing the deal would tell us that he's not as ready as advertised.

All this is is fodder to make Scott Boras come back to the table with a deal with less years. Nothing more, nothing less.

Don't be surprised when you start hearing the Sox are after Pierre or Gathright.

Are you talking in terms of Damon re-signing? Not sure if I see how it affects those talks.

HAHAHAHAHA.

I wouldn't give Otsuka for Wells and Mirabelli, let alone Loretta as a throw-in.

Yeah, I too would not like that deal. It would be terrible for the Sox. Otsuka would be nice but Wells and Mirab are much greater. Loretta's a bum IMHO as evidenced previously by his nearly identical Millar stats.

You're kidding yourself if you put more weight into his numbers last season than you do his 2003 and 2004 seasons. Loretta was injured last season; you try swinging a bat with a wrist injury. This is a guy who hit .335 just a season ago with an .886 OPS. He's worth more than Wells and Mirabelli by himself, let alone with Otsuka.
