Loretta to Sox Rumor

Postby GreenMonsterGoon » Sat Dec 03, 2005 11:33 am

David Wells and Doug Mirabelli to SD for Mark Loretta and Okunuri. The Boston Globe insists it may happen.

1. This should have "Rumor" in the headline.

2. Not sure I like this move. If this was the pre-wrist injury Loretta from 2003-2004, I wouldn't mind it. But losing Mirabelli, probably the best back-up catcher in the game and Wake's personal catcher, doesn't thrill me.

IF Okunori is included in the deal, I love it! Shoppach is ready to be the backup.

Why Lorretta though? I think it's be better to get Todd Walker or Jerry Hairston from the Cubs. I know the Padres want Barfield to play 2B. But I don't think this moves helps the Red Sox much.

I like that deal. Shoppach becomes the backup, we get a decent 2b. Hasn't Loretta been over .300 the past few years, with some pop?

I like it...we shore up the pen and get ourselves an everyday 2B. Since Shoppach can back up Tek, I don't mind this at all.

Loretta and Kevin Millar in 2004
ba OBP SLG OPS

.272 .355 .399 .754
.280 .360 .347 .707

which one is which?

The first is Millar the second Loretta.

I think Peodria and Cora could put up those numbers and we won't have to give up anything for them.
