Help with a sig?

I'm trying to make a sig a little more complex than the one I have now, but to be honest I'm stumbling in the dark here. I have a background I made out of some pics:



and a graffiti "Oakland" I made on a different site.



I want to get the "Oakland" onto the background, but still be able to see the background. Right now, if I try to put it on, it covers it up. Is there a way to cut the word "Oakland" out of the pic and superimpose it over the background so you can still see what the background is?

If that didn't make sense, what I'm looking for is that background with the just the graffiti "Oakland", not the black part of it, over the top of it.

If somebody could either tell me how to do that, or make it work on their own I'd be really thankful. I'm at a loss right now and I hope it's possible to do, or else I just wasted some good time getting this far.

Well the oakland graffiti is so big I didn't know how much to shrink it..



and I have the text cut out... it looks like crap, but it looks fine with a background..

It comes out clean with a drop shadow on it also.

Yeah I noticed that the magic wand was picking up the inside colors...

Sweet sig. Perhaps a little outer glow on the Oakland would make it even snappier.
