With Furcal almost a certainty to head somewhere else, who will the Braves have leading off next year? Lugo is an option and possibly trying to trade for Pierre to put in left? Giles is the only one in the organization who seems capable of leading off and he seems much better suited as a number 2 hitter.

Possably Renteria? I know this guy only had 9 steals in 05, but he can be a burner and lets just say the Sox are just a little conservative running the bases.

Braves GM John Schuerholz said he'll keep looking for a leadoff hitter, but if he doesn't find one, Marcus Giles will get the job.

I could also be Ryan Langerhans. Looking at his splits from last sesaon, it's obvious he really developed as a hitter after the break. If he is able to grab a full-time role in LF this season, with KJ relieving Pete Orr of his utility duties (since Johnson can play 2B and SS as well as any of the OF spots), I would expect to see Langy post around .290/.375./.790.

His OBP was higher than Furcal's last season, despite a lower batting average, and he is only going to get more patient as he gets older. Marcus is a great hitter in the 2-hole...I don't want to see him leading off.

Most likely will be Giles - I have also heard that Kelly Johnson could be used in that role - Johnson will have to hit himself into a regular OF'er gig before thats going to happen though.

what about betemit? could he compete for the position with renteria, from what i saw on t.v., he had great speed and got hits when needed.

renteria's job is very secure and he and betemit will not be competing for the job, renteris has it no doubt. betemit played well for the braves last season, but he is by no means going to play over renteria. betemit will be used as the braves' utility man that ridesthe bench.
