Konerko and Angel's rumor

Postby Phatferd » Tue Nov 29, 2005 6:29 pm

ESPN Radio 710 (KSPN) in SoCal just reported that the Angel's have made a 5 year $60 million offer to Konerko. I think they quoted the LA Times.

Man I sure hope this isn't true. Why lock up a player his age in a deal like that! He isn't even a .300 hitter.

Anyone want Garrett Anderson?

I knew he would end up in Anaheim.
He'll get to tee off on Esteban Loaiza now. :-)

A player his age? I think he's 29. What's wrong with a 5 year deal?

That deal ain't too bad considering what other players have gotten thus far.

I think that would be a gread addition to that lineup.

There will come a day when Barry Bonds leaves baseball, and everything about the game will be the better for it.

Angels need a bat and Konerko does fill that need.

This is bad news for the White Sox if true. The ChiSox needed to keep Konerko. This is going to be an awful hit, not only on the field, but off, if Konerko signs in LA.

and block two very good hitters (and nearly ready) in Kotchman and Morales??

Kotchman is even a far better defender than Konerko. Seems to me that Manny would be a better fit for Anaheim. The Angels also need starting pitching if they are serious about a deep run in the playoffs.

I thought he was 32, I guess I am way off. If he is 29 or 30 then this doesn't bother me as much.

I still think he is making too much money $12 mil per year for being a .270 hitter. If all you need is some pop then there are much cheaper options.

Hopefully he's just found his groove and will be awesome for years to come.

Does this move Erstad back to CF? Or does Konerko become the DH for the majority of the games?

I would think he is the new 1B. I don't think they will want to play Erstad at 1B for 85% of the games and then throw him out in CF rusty. If he is going to play any CF then I think they make the move.

One other thing that angers me with this deal. What to do with Kotchman and Morales? Use them as bait? For Manny? If we do then where does Manny play with GA, Erstad and Vlad in the OF?

DH?

I would love this lineup:

Figgins
O-Cab
Vlad
Manny
Konkero
GA
Erstad
Mathis/Jose Molina
Kennedy

I would not mind that at all.

[edit] I am reading that it's actually 5 years for $65 million :-o

I had the same questions as you Phatferd. If they sign Konerko, what the hell do they do with:

Erstad? - back to outfield?
Finley? - if you move Erstad out there, where does he go?
Kotchman? - DH?
Morales?
Figgins? or McPherson?

A good problem to have, too many good players.....but surely they need to trade some of these guys....

If the Angels sign Konerko do you realize what that might do to Vladdys value? They won't be able to intentionally walk him anymore to get to the next hitter. His numbers could go through the roof. And I just got Vlad in a trade last week. Wow!! Can you say triple crown ? Could happen.
