Will he get traded?
Been hearing two rumors about him
1. Bobby Abreu for Erik Bedard and Jay Gibbons
and
2. Bobby Abreu and Mike Lieberthal for Carl Pavano, Jorge Posada, and Eric Duncan

I think he will traded. Both of these rumors are gaining steam. The fact that the Phillies are talking to two seperate teams leads me to believe they are initiating it.
Maine has a good swing for a pitcher but on anything that moves, he has no chance. And if it's a fastball, it has to be up in the zone. Basically, the pitcher has to hit his bat. - Mike Pelfrey
I'm not sure if there's any chance of either deal happening, but I have to say, I'm not exactly thrilled with the Yankees getting Abreu. I'd still probably make the deal, since you drop so much contract with the losses of Posada and Pavano, but Abreu is not the player that the Yankees need.
The contract dumps are the only reason I'd make this deal if I'm New York.
i would like to see abreu in pinstripes, but i really REALLY dont want to see lieberthal behind the dish. now if they can make this deal and sign ramon hernandez... then id be all for it.
Most in the industry expect new Phillies GM Pat Gillick to do something big; right fielder Bobby Abreu would be a perfect trade addition for any team that fails to sign free agent Brian Giles. The Cubs could use the left-handed Abreu to hit between righties Derrek Lee and Aramis Ramirez. The Mariners also want to add left-handed power. The Astros — Abreu's original team — would be another possible partner if they could somehow find a way to absorb the $30 million he is owed over the next two seasons. The Dodgers also would make sense.
I agree with Veres...why dump Abreu? He puts up great stats and apparently someone thinks he plays good defense because I believe he won a gold glove (this is sarcastic!)....anyway, if the Phillies are playing to win instead of 'rebuilding', then dealing Abreu now doesn't make sense. Besides, if they keep Abreu, his trade value may be higher closer to the trade deadline when teams are desparate!

wow, this is a suprise. the yankees making a trade to shed payroll. i'd love to see the yanks get abreu. although he's a lazy defender his bat is great and he'd help bolster the lineup.
