4 years? Hopefully Wagner can be pitching at a high level in year 3 and 4 of this contract. Anyway, this was the price one had to expect Wagner going for, that's alot of cash though. Mets aren't looking too bad for next year!!
...Boston papers now and then suffer a sharp flurry of arithmetic on this score; indeed, for Williams to have distributed all his hits so they did nobody else any good would constitute a feat of placement unparalleled in the annals of selfishness. -Updike

This is awesome. Hopefully the contract is front loaded.

Maine has a good swing for a pitcher but on anything that moves, he has no chance. And if it's a fastball, it has to be up in the zone. Basically, the pitcher has to hit his bat. - Mike Pelfrey

Giving the extra year has put the Mets up twice now, including this and Pedro. Hopefully it works out for them and both guys will still be worth their contract when it's nearing the end.

Guys usually aren't worth their contract towards the end of long term contracts anyway, i.e. Mussina, Giambi, Kevin Brown, Bernie Williams, Mike Piazza, etc. but the money is needed to sign these type of players. It doesn't help that most contracts these days are heavily back loaded anyway.

Good signing by the Mets. ;-D 2006 baby

Good for the Mets, they got the closer they needed. They're starting to look real nice for next year.
