Lajoie and Shipley tap-danced around the delicate matters of trade requests from pitcher David Wells
Lajoie said that since it is the team’s policy not to discuss trades until they happen, or ongoing negotiations, “we would not want to comment” on Ramirez.
“If there’s a deal to make, we’ll make it,” said Shipley of Wells’ request. “He’s someone who’s sought after.” . . .
There was no news available on the GM search. Lajoie and Shipley sounded far from concerned about the lack of a development.
“We haven’t had a problem,” Lajoie said. “We’ve got four guys getting along great, and we’re all dividing up the things to do.”
Three of the owners - John Henry, Tom Werner and team president/CEO Larry Lucchino - are also active.
“It does take a little more time when you’re dealing with seven people instead of four,” Lajoie said. “But I’m excited about the way we’ve all been contributing to whatever it is we have to do.”
Said Shipley: “The chemistry’s great. . . . We may not agree on everything, but we get along and understand how different tasks need to be delegated. The GM issue still has to be resolved and I’m sure it will be resolved with time, and I hope we can keep this group together.”
