New York - Penn League

Postby pilambp » Fri Jun 20, 2003 10:29 am

Last year, they opened up a new stadium in my town where the Houston Astro's NY-Penn League team plays. I went to 10-15 of the Tri-City Valleycats games last year and had a great time following the team. However, I was wondering if anyone knew how players are designated to the NY-Penn League. It seems that most of the players are not big prospects, but I did have the chance to see Scott Kazmir pitch last season for the Met's affiliate. It seems that most of the players in the league are too old to be playing A ball, and are mostly late round picks out of college. I'm hoping someone can lend some insight.

Well, it's a short-season league, which is the first stop for many players drafted out of college. The younger prospects will normally start in the rookie leagues. Not sure whether that answers the question...

Well, it seems like the only guys that were drafted this year in the league are late round picks, and the other guys in the league look like they are on there last shot at developing into a career. I'm wondering where all the top prospects go initially.

What did you think of Scott Kazmir? He continues do dominate, but I want to see him in AA.
Zack Greinke...the next Greg Maddux. LOOK IT UP!
For what it's worth.

Kamir was unbelievable when I saw him in the NY-Penn League. He pitched 5 scoreless when I saw him, part of his 18 Innings, 34Ks, 1ER Short Season Run.
