$20 mil per year? Why, that would make him the highest-paid closer in all of baseball.

Hmm... :-?

:-D

Not if he's a set-up man. :-D

D'oh! Marver would lose on a technicality. That's rough!

My opinion is that he goes to Cleveland as his first choice, followed by Baltimore.

I don't think he'll go to Cleveland because they don't have the money to spend. Baltimore looks like a good possibility though (why wouldn't they just retain Ryan for less money :-? )

Why wouldn't anyone just sign Ryan for less money? Given their age and the money/years they want Wagner and Hoffman are going to be very bad values. I much rather spend less on Ryan and use the extra cash elsewhere.

I think that has been the case all along. The problem will be if they don't sign Giles OR Hoffman.

I would say Hoffman is pricing himself out of San Diego. If I were a GM, I wouldn't be willing to give a large contract to 38 year old, with a declining K/9, who will throw 50-60 innings. Like Pogo said, I would rather have BJ Ryan who has more K's, is younger, will probably be cheaper, but has less of the magic closer dust.

Ryan doesn't want anything to do with Baltimore, I don't think it matters how much they offer.
