I would assume that Southwest offers one card, either through MC or Visa, that is your typical "cash back/rewards" card, with the cash back and or rewards being travel miles. From what I have heard, this can be very beneficial if you fly often and with a specific card.
I don't know how Southwest works, but many airlines offer a "club" or "membership" where the more you fly, the more frequent flier miles you get. Southwest may have a program where you get miles based on your flying in addition to miles earned throuh the card.
Not me. I get jack squat other than a nice low fixed rate (6.9%) on my credit card. I'll take the low rate over the gimmicks anyday.

right, but the thing is i plan on using this card exactly like my debit card and track it just like i would my debit card. therefore i would always pay off the entire balance each month and still rack up some free plane tickets in the meantime

Makes sense.
Just do yourself a big favor and make sure you always pay them off every month. Massive credit card debt is not fun at all, takes quite awhile to get out from under of, and you'll kick yourself for every payment check you write, should that happen.
